My Project

I started making jewelry the summer going into my junior year. I had been eying a certain necklace but came to find out that it cost over $300 and just wasn’t willing to pay that much so I decided that I could make my own. Ever since then making jewelry has been a passion of mine, and as of recently, a living. I have had 3 trunk shows by now and have earned a significant amount, enough that made me realize this is something I could potentially do as a living. During my senior project I plan to intern with Laura Pearce and learn about the business aspect of jewelry design as well as make my own jewelry and finish it off with a large trunk show. Overall I want to start my own (small) company and study jewelry sales as well as jewelry design. An internship in and of itself is a great learning experience and will teach me work ethic. This internship specifically will teach me business and marketing skills that I could not learn in the classroom.  In addition to the internship, I will be out on my own creating jewelry and finding wholesale suppliers to ultimately start my own small business.
I plan to have a trunk show on April 25th, which will be the finale to my project. I will of course have inventory and all my financial records from that to show. In addition throughout the course of my project I plan to work with my computer science teacher, as well as my dad who is a programmer, on a website. I hope to launch the website before the project is over so I can also discuss if it was a success or not. So I hope that my skills obtained through my internship will be evident in the trunk show, as well as the website.
